Breeding means responsibility and requires a high degree of experience and knowledge. The selective breeding of dressage ponies for equestrian sports aims to enhance desirable characteristics and eliminate undesirable ones as much as possible. As such it is our breeding goal to offer sport ponies that are gentle, uncomplicated, mentally strong, reliable, and kid-friendly. Rideability, willingness to perform, and the performance level coupled with the alert, intelligent character of our dressage ponies also help to provide young riders with an ideal basis.

On our stud farm, broodmares and their foals enjoy the best conditions for an optimal start in life! With us, all foals learn the necessary social behavior in a stable herd that is never too big and that is made up in accordance with the age of the foals. We place a great emphasis on the foals growing up healthy and under the most natural conditions possible. We let our foals gallop to their heart’s content in the outdoors, providing them with the exercise they need in sufficiently large areas. From summer to late autumn, the broodmares spend their days on the pastures. In winter, they are kept in spacious pens and get their daily exercise in large paddocks. To provide the breeding horses with optimal conditions, all of our weanlings are allowed to stay at professional breeding establishments, for instance at the Moormann breeding farm, until they are 3 years old. With sufficient exercise, first-class food and high-quality hay, we ensure their healthy growth and a strong musculoskeletal system to lay the foundation for a successful life.

QUALITY

To ensure our goal of breeding and training rideable dressage ponies for children, we place our trust in proven breeding lines. It is these successful breeding lines we try to refine and optimize. So in almost all of the riding ponies we breed, you will find the well-proven Bönniger stud lines. In addition, we only breed stallions and mares that were either successful in the sport themselves or that come from lines with a proven track record of producing rideable and successful riding ponies.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

It’s a long road from the selection of a matching stallion for the broodmare and birth to training until becoming a dressage pony. That is why we focus on providing our ponies with the best along the way so that they can become the best. This includes constant health checks for our herds. None of our ponies sets out on its journey to become a dressage pony before it has passed a health check, including radiological exams, without any irregularities. Naturally, osteopaths, dentists, farriers, and saddlers also visit our stud farms regularly to ensure that our ponies always have the best conditions during their schooling.

THE GERMAN RIDING PONY – A BREED PROFILE

The German Riding Pony is an attractive and highly intelligent sport horse in a small format. The breeding goal is to create a real all-rounder with a large pony size to provide kids and teenagers with an ideal introduction to equestrian sports. Elegant and highly athletic, this small warmblood is equipped with all of the qualities of real sport horses without losing the mode of expression that is typical for ponies. Thanks to its large, loving eyes and its noble yet cute pony head, even timid young people quickly learn to trust a riding pony.
In addition to its huge talent in equestrian sports, riding ponies are particularly popular because of their balanced, sincere character regularly and their special as well as gentle companionship. Reliable and brave, it will go through thick and thin with its rider. However, large riding ponies are not only suitable for children, light adults love them as well. Robust, with healthy hooves and a harmonious body, they are suitable for a variety of equestrian disciplines. Whether dressage, jumping, eventing, or even western riding: There are almost no limits for owners of riding ponies. Lately many riding ponies have also shown a great talent in front of a carriage, and so it has come as no surprise that they are increasingly seen in combined driving.
However, riding ponies are not only reserved to top level competition riders. These talented ponies easily adapt to their owners’ daily routines as pure recreational horses. Provided, of course, they receive proper care and expert training in line with their natural needs. As intelligent and energetic animals, they form a close bond with their keepers and are happy about species-appropriate activities and lots of exercise.
